The Abstract Square Notebook 3/30/11

I find and so many of us do-beautiful colors, lines, and textures in everyday objects. I am starting a new collection of abstract color squares found outside the studio. These will  be part of a new project to inspire future paintings.  I begin with pink, strangely enough found at my family's farm in the implement shed, not garden.

Sunday Selection-Paul Behnke

Paul Behnke has some bold playful works that are quite special. I really like the underlying colors that pop through. He is from Memphis now living in NY. I have admired his work for awhile. I am enjoying the freshness of the work. Check out more of Paul's paintings at  www.paulbehnke.net
Paul has an upcoming show at the The Rosenfeld Gallery in Philadelphia in 2012.

Sunday Morning Sweet Goodness

My Sunday Selection is a little behind because I was lucky enough to be enjoying this fabulous breakfast my husband made for us. I have to write about it because it was *amazing*. It is homemade sourdough bread-stuffed french toast. It consists of greek yougurt infused with blue berries and vanilla. Not to mention the maple syrup drizzled on top. I think he is really on to something here:)

Studio & Progress

I am working on a lot of new pieces and my studio is chaos. I will never be a "clean" artist. It's just not in me. Here are a few views and new pieces in the works. I am focusing on med-large works these days. I have no deadlines right now which gives me more freedom and ease to create. I am working in a fury through some pieces and taking my time with others. I am feeling like the work is  headed to a really interesting place. It's moving more emotional and energized. I am having fun exploring new directions.

Birgitte Lund-Sunday Selection

Brigitte Lund Showroom 5 2010

Th pure white studio of Birgitte Lund is zen like. I love the white space that flows into the horizontal lines in her work. Noted on her website  www.birgittelund.com she uses many layering techniques in her work. Some of the materials used:  papers from all over the world, shellac, fluid rubber, and plaster. The mix of organic shape and sharp horizontal pulls you in.

Sunday Selection-Pamela Farrell

Pamela Farrell 2010 "Proof" oil on mulberry paper
Pamela Farrell's pieces are beautiful. Pamela works in various medias (oil, encaustic, digital photography) and they all  relate to each other so well. The softness she captures is really lovely. The showering layers of color give the works such depth. View her portfolio on her website. Also check out Pamela's blog  www.pfarrellartblog.blogspot.com . She has curated online shows on her blog such as "Pink" and "Seeing Red". She is represented by Ruth Morpeth Gallery.
Another dreamy Sunday!

More Stop And Go

This is another piece I just completed. It had been put away over a year ago and now has a new life. This has had many- many layers and is transformed into a very fiery piece.

I am a sucker for photos of other artist's studios. Tim has a great blog www.initforlife.blogspot.com where he has some documentation of his studio and informative writing. I really love the posts of studio visits to other artist studios. You can see more of  his paintings at Bridgette Mayer Gallery where he is represented in Philadelphia.
