Check out Stephanie Clayton's online exhibition of A Tribute To Aqua. Stephanie has created a beautiful show featuring the color of paradise which she has been living near for some time. John Belingheri at Sandler Hudson May 21 - July 3

Check out these beautifully layered paintings at Sandler Hudson Gallery . I love the depth and lushness of the work.

Bay Area artist John Belingheri explores repetition of form in his mixed media and oil paintings in his show entitled, New Work at Sandler Hudson Gallery. Each painting features an intently mapped array of ellipses that guide the viewer's eye around the canvas. These shapes bump up against each other creating visual vibration. By simplifying shape to one ovoid form, Belingheri has allowed color and texture to take the main stage. He sands and paints rigorously to create the texture which he finishes with a wax rub, emphasizing the velvety hues of the oils and exhibiting his mastery of surface. The surfaces of Belingheri's paintings look as if they were found in nature and are impermanent and open to change. He shows signs of past histories and archaeologies that are continuously revealed and covered with tenacious layers and patterns.(text source: Sandler Hudson

Messy Studio

I have always been a messy painter and I have a method to the madness. It's so strange but I can always find my way through the imperfect set up I have. I am considering a new system to improve my ways...but old habits are hard to break. Off to the studio to create more of a mess...

BRETT SMITH- 15 seconds – Front Gallery
Atlanta-based artist and South-Africa native, Brett Smith will conduct an interactive conceptual performance piece during the opening reception of his exhibition entitled, "15 Seconds."

Small Work

A new small painting that is part of a new minimal layered ongoing series. I am working on some small paintings that I will be showing in September in Brookline Village, MA.  I am excited to play around with different small dimensions and create an installation incorporating the interesting sizes.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all my friends. Hope this New Year brings happiness and health to all! I have some good things happening in 2010 and one is that I will be a part of a group show coming up in February. I will be a part of the "Enormous Tiny Art Show" at Nahcotta Gallery in Portsmouth, NH. I love this show and am very happy to be one of the artists participating....more on that soon.

Tonight is the opening for Katherine Mitchell 7-9 pm. I will be posting pictures later next week of this show. Her recent exhibition at Sandler Hudson Gallery entitled, Correspondences, Conversations and Texts, deals with the origin of her drawings and paintings which involves text and forms a departure from her past, purely geometric and abstract works. Katherine Mitchell is recently retired from Emory Visual Arts Department having taught there for almost 30 years. She will discuss these works at an artist's talk on Saturday, December 19th, 2pm. Some New Work

Here are a few new pieces...sorry I have been so slow with my postings lately! These are a mix of subtle and vibrant pieces.

Gone West

I took a trip out west to LA and a little vacation in San Diego with a girlfriend to check out galleries and see what's happening. I was happy to be there when a lot of openings were going on. It was nice to check it all out and get a feeling of the scene there. LA has so much going on that I could have stayed much longer to investigate. I have felt my color sense would be a great fit there. I am hoping that I have made some good contacts and see where it may go. I love the fact that the weather is so amazing, it can only help people get out and go gallery gazing. I was very impressed with the turn out for so many shows. I was also happy to have such a good friendly experience. The west coast is laid back and happier I guess. Below are a few shots I took at some galleries before the openings started. The first one is at William Turner Gallery in Santa Monica at Bergamot Station. It is work by Eric Johnson. Bergamot houses a complex of galleries. This was a great area...so many galleries at one place and easy to get to and from. There were many galleries in here I enjoyed.

Eric Johnson to see more. Eric creates composite works of pigment, wood and resin. These abstract works merge the passion for depth and structure with an obsession for color and surface. Being a part of the California hot rod culture in the past, he has incorporated industrial products and automotive knowledge into his art making. (this was part of his statement on William Turner's site) Here are a few shots of the show. I will be posting more to come in the next few days of more amazing work.
